چکیده
Abstract Background Using phantoms and clinical studies in prone hanging breast imaging, we assessed the image quality of a commercially available dedicated PET (dbPET) at detector’s edge, where mammary glands near chest wall are located. These compared to supine PET/CT images same subjects. Methods A phantom with four spheres (16-, 10-, 7.5-, 5-mm diameter) was filled 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose solution (sphere-to-background activity concentration ratio, 8:1). The occupied five different positions from top edge centre detector were scanned for 5 min each position. Reconstructed visually evaluated, contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), contrast recovery coefficient (CRC) all spheres, variation background (CV B ) calculated. Subsequently, obtained standard dbPET retrospectively analysed. Tumour-to-background ratios (TBRs) between cancer (close edge; peripheral group) other locations (non-peripheral compared. TBR lesion PET/CT. Results Closer CNR CRC decreased while CV increased study. disadvantages this placement confirmed. Regarding images, significantly higher than that both (12.38 ± 6.41 vs 6.73 3.5, p = 0.0006) non-peripheral (12.44 5.94 7.71 7.1, 0.0183) groups. There no significant difference Conclusion study revealed poorer < 2-cm distance more central parts. In studies, however, visibility lesions regardless position, it has great potential detecting if they least 2 cm FOV, even young women small breasts.

متن کاملThe effect of fasting on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging
As a nuclear approach, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique which is based on the detection of gamma ray pairs emitted by a positron-emitting radionuclide. There are certain limitations to this technique such as normal tissue uptake. Therefore, it has been recommended that patients prepare before scanning. Fasting for a short while before PET imaging is an exampl...

Objective: Cardiac hypertrophy is a complex phenotype induced by a number of stimuli and may lead to cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Present knowledge suggests that cell cycle regulatory proteins take part in the development of hypertrophy. We have investigated the activation and regulation of the E2F transcription factor during the hypertrophic response. Methods: The expression and activity ...
متن کاملPositron Emission Tomography in Breast Cancer
PET18FDG is an imaging diagnostic technique that shows changes in glycolitic metabolism that appear at a very early phases in the tumoral process. The main limitation of PET in breast cancer is the detection of small tumor lesions and axillary micrometastases. However it offers important information in the staging of high risk patients, in clinical relapse or in therapeutic evaluation. The new ...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of the Construction of Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Facilities in Three South African Hospitals
Introduction: Development of higher energy modalities such as positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), has led to more complex shielding problems. This is due to several factors, such as the radiopharmaceutical relatively high-administered activity, high patient throughput, and high energies of 511 kilo-electron volt (keV) positron annihilation photon...
